Ice and Snow Removal

During snow and ice storms, our Public Works Department works diligently to keep the streets clear.

N. Sappington Rd. Preservation Project

The City of Glendale has acquired federal aid funding through the Surface Transportation Program administered by the East-West Gateway Council of Governments for the preservation of N. Sappington Rd between Manchester Rd and Lockwood Ave. This project entails the replacement of broken and deteriorated sections of concrete sidewalks and curbing, replacement of all ADA sidewalk ramps to meet current federal standards, replacement of all stamped concrete crosswalks, pavement milling, stormwater improvements, and a new asphalt overlay.

Proposition S

In April 2025, Glendale voters approved Proposition S, authorizing an $18.18 million debt service to fund a 5-year infrastructure improvement plan (2026–2030).

Sidewalks and Curbing Program

Our Public Works Department replaces sidewalks only on N. Sappington Road. The remainder of sidewalks throughout the City are the responsibility of the residents. Our Curbing Program consists of curbs being added to streets without curbs and the repairing of broken, aging curbs. All new curbs are installed using asphalt.  Residents are required by ordinance to maintain and keep clear the sidewalks on their property.  This includes clearing sidewalks of snow, ice and other debris such as tree limbs and leaves.

Street Maintenance

Our Public Works Department is responsible for all City street repairs and maintenance, curb removal and replacement and striping of City streets.

Street Signs

All City signs to include parking, speed limit, traffic and welcome signs are maintained and replaced by our Public Works Department with the exception of all signs off of Berry Road and West Lockwood, which are maintained by the St. Louis County Highway Department, and all signs on Manchester, which are maintained by the Missouri Department of Transportation. The Missouri Uniform Traffic Code determines the style of street signs with respect to size, reflectivity, etc.

Temporary “No Parking” signs may be put up if requested by the resident in the event of a block party, estate or garage sale, etc. To request this service, please contact City Hall at 965-3600 or click here to download the No Parking Sign Application.

Street Sweeping

Street sweeping services will be provided throughout the City on an as-needed basis, usually in June.

Street Trees and Urban Forestry

The Public Works Department is responsible for the trimming of overgrowth of trees and shrubbery protruding into roadways.

Water Main Repair Projects

Missouri American Water is undertaking two large water main replacement projects on Sappington Rd. and Berry Rd. in Glendale over the next year. Check this page for updates on project scheduling, road closures and other information.
