Street Trees and Urban Forestry

The Public Works Department is responsible for the trimming of overgrowth of trees and shrubbery protruding into roadways. Trees and shrubs are to be kept behind the curb line and no lower than twelve (12) feet above the roadway surface to allow for visibility and vehicle passage. The Public Works Department is also responsible for the maintenance and/or removal of all trees and shrubs growing within the City right of way, which varies from street to street. However, generally speaking, the City right of way is five (5) to ten (10) feet from the curb, depending on the width of the street. Contact City Hall at 965-3600 to ascertain what the right of way is for your street.

Ameren UE is responsible for the trimming of tree and shrub branches from in and around power lines. Please visit http://www.ameren.com to learn more about tree trimming and brush removal policies. Click here for additional information from Ameren regarding tree maintenance.
